Vice President Stresses India’s Commitment to Pluralism and Spiritualism at Global Spirituality Mahotsav
Hyderabad, March 16, 2024 : In a poignant address at the valedictory ceremony of the Global Spirituality Mahotsav held in Hyderabad today, Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar reiterated India’s enduring role as “a proud champion of pluralism,” with the principle of Sarv Dharm Samabhav (Equality of all religions) at the core of its civilizational ethos.
Highlighting the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Vice President emphasized its aim “to provide relief to persecuted minorities without infringing upon the rights of existing citizens.” He expressed disappointment over the failure of some to acknowledge the CAA’s positive impact on the human rights of persecuted minorities in the neighborhood, urging for a deeper understanding of its significance.
In his address, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar underscored India’s stature as an “obvious global spiritual center,” shaping world discourse through a profound commitment to spiritualism. He portrayed India as a natural hub for spiritual growth, where seekers could explore sublimity, virtuosity, and rectitude.
The Vice President emphasized that spirituality has been deeply ingrained in the fabric of Indian society, influencing various aspects including religion, ethics, philosophy, literature, art, architecture, dance, music, as well as socio-economic and political structures.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Dhankhar reminded the audience that the Earth has enough for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s greed. He stressed that India’s timeless spiritual heritage serves as a guiding light in a world increasingly dominated by technological advancements and material pursuits.
Moreover, the Vice President positioned India as “a beacon of hope and enlightenment” amidst rising geopolitical tensions, repression, intolerance, and injustice globally. He called upon all to uphold the values of diversity and tolerance, emphasizing the urgent need for spirited action to foster sustainable development and global peace.
The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Governor of Telangana, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan; Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of Northeastern Region, Shri G. Kishan Reddy; Culture Minister of Telangana, Shri Jupally Krishna Rao; and Global Guide of Heartfulness, Shri Kamlesh D Patel, among others.
