Big news coming in from the social media world! Meta , the owner of Facebook, is making some important changes starting next month. They’re introducing something called “Made with AI” labels for videos, images, and audio that are generated using artificial intelligence. This is a big step forward because earlier, they only had labels for a few fake videos, but now they’re expanding it.

Monika Bickert, who’s in charge of content policies at Meta, explained in a blog post that they’ll also be putting special labels on digitally altered content that could deceive people, whether it’s made with AI or other tools.

This means Meta is changing how they deal with fake content. Instead of just taking it down, they’ll now leave it up but let people know it’s fake and how it was made.

Meta had previously talked about using invisible markers to detect images made with other companies’ AI tools, but they didn’t say when it would start. Now, they’ve clarified that this labeling approach will apply to content on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, and they’re starting it right away.

These changes are happening just before the US presidential election in November, and experts say new AI technologies could change how it all plays out. Earlier this year, Meta’s oversight board criticized their rules on fake videos after a video of President Joe Biden was altered to make it look like he did something he didn’t. According to Meta’s existing policy, they only take down fake videos if they’re made with AI or if they make people say things they didn’t actually say.

So, it looks like Meta is trying to step up their game when it comes to tackling fake stuff on their platforms. Let’s see how these changes pan out!
