Prime Minister Narendra Modi Welcomes Bhutanese Counterpart on Official Visit

New Delhi, March 15, 2024 (PIB): Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a productive meeting with the Prime Minister of Bhutan, H.E Dasho Tshering Tobgay, in New Delhi yesterday. This visit marks Prime Minister Tobgay’s first official overseas visit since assuming office in February 2024, highlighting the significance of the bilateral relationship between India and Bhutan.

During their discussions, the two leaders assessed the progress made across various sectors of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing infrastructure development, connectivity, energy, hydropower collaboration, people-to-people exchanges, and development cooperation. Both Prime Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering the special and enduring friendship shared between India and Bhutan.

Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay lauded India’s steadfast support and partnership in addressing Bhutan’s developmental needs, hailing India as a reliable, trusted, and valued ally in Bhutan’s journey towards progress and prosperity.

In a gesture of goodwill and diplomacy, Prime Minister Tobgay extended a cordial invitation on behalf of His Majesty the King of Bhutan for Prime Minister Modi to undertake an official visit to Bhutan next week. Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the invitation, further underscoring the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Tobgay signifies the deep-rooted ties and shared commitment to mutual growth and prosperity between India and Bhutan.
